Several of the guides sort office cleaning by how often it needs doing. Daily is trash, high-touch surfaces like door handles and light switches, the break room and restocking the restrooms. For a small office, JAN-PRO puts that daily round at 15 to 30 minutes. The weekly and monthly jobs are the ones that quietly slip, so they get their own stretch of this list. It assumes a shared office you look after yourselves. It leaves out exterior areas, specialist floor care and hiring a cleaning service.

Why these items are on the list

  1. Empty trash, replace liners. Daily. JAN-PRO lists trash under its morning round. Don't forget the recycling.
  2. Wipe door handles and light switches. These are the high-touch spots people skip. Elevator buttons and shared equipment belong here too.
  3. Wipe desks, phones, shared surfaces. A daily job. Dust the surfaces next to them while you've got the cloth out.
  4. Clean keyboards, mice, monitors. Use cleaners made for office equipment. The wrong product can damage screens or components.
  5. Put away open food. Eden warns forgotten food could leave a rotten smell by morning. Have spare containers ready.
  6. Wipe break room counters and tables. Food, spills and heavy use invite bacteria in shared spaces, so don't rush this one.
  7. Wipe microwave and coffee station. Rinse and disinfect the water dispenser too, and wipe down the fridge.
  8. Load the dishwasher. Eden says a few plates and forks will always be left in the sink. Load them before the day ends.
  9. Clean and disinfect restrooms. JAN-PRO's daily list: toilets, sinks and fixtures, plus mirrors and counters.
  10. Restock soap and paper towels. Toilet paper too. Check first thing, before somebody finds an empty dispenser.
  11. Spot clean spills midday. Walk the common areas and high-traffic zones around midday instead of leaving it all for night.
  12. Check recycling bins. GoAudits' audit template wants them empty or less than half full.
  13. Sweep or vacuum floors. JAN-PRO puts this at end of day. Brothers adds spot-cleaning entryways and high-traffic paths.
  14. Mop floors, edges included. Weekly, with attention to the edges, per JAN-PRO. Brothers says to use cleaning solutions suited to hard floors.
  15. Vacuum carpets and under furniture. Weekly, and reach under desks and tables rather than just around them.
  16. Clear out the fridge. Do it near the end of the week and ask people to take their own food home.
  17. Wash trash can bottoms. Eden says mold can develop at the bottom of a bin, and recommends hose and soap once a week.
  18. Clean glass and partitions. Eden says office windows collect dust and dirt through the week, and suggests wiping them once a week.
  19. Dust vents, baseboards, hidden areas. JAN-PRO has weekly dusting cover vents, baseboards and less visible areas. Brothers moves vents to its monthly list.
  20. Give restrooms a full clean. Eden calls daily a basic wipedown, with the full clean weekly. JAN-PRO's daily round disinfects toilets, sinks and fixtures.
  21. Vacuum upholstered furniture. Monthly, per Eden, who recommends the Black & Decker cordless hand vacuum for furniture.
  22. Scrub bathroom grout. Eden lists grout as a monthly job; Brothers includes grout areas in its weekly restroom deep clean.
  23. Deep clean carpets. JAN-PRO suggests doing carpet cleaning after hours, so the carpet has time to dry before people return.
  24. Wash windows. Monthly in JAN-PRO's schedule. Pick a time outside peak hours so nobody's disrupted.
  25. Plan quarterly deep cleans. JAN-PRO lists full-facility and hard-to-reach cleaning as quarterly or as needed, so choose what suits your office.

Tick it off on your phone as you go, and share it with whoever covers the next round so nobody has to guess what's already done.

When to use it

Use it for a shared office you clean in-house, with the daily round every workday and the deeper jobs on their own schedule.
