People forget the small things. A light jacket, because casinos and hotels run cold even when the Strip is hot. Lip balm for the dry desert air. A government-issued ID, since Vegas is all about 21+ activities. Then there are shoes: the Strip is more than 4 miles long, per Holafly, and it is easy to lose track of time on your feet. This list assumes a long weekend with pool time and a night out. It leaves out money, shows and bookings.

Why these items are on the list

  1. Light jacket or sweater. Casino air-conditioning runs constantly, even when the Strip is sunny and blazing hot.
  2. Government-issued photo ID. Needed for casinos and drinks. Check it before you leave the house.
  3. Comfortable walking shoes. The Strip runs more than 4 miles by Holafly's count. Easy to lose track.
  4. Two casual daily outfits. Holafly's weekend baseline. Hot days on the Strip call for low-key clothes.
  5. Two evening outfits. Also Holafly's weekend baseline. Cover dinners, casinos or clubs; some venues enforce dress codes.
  6. Dress shoes or heels. Match them to your evening outfits. Some places in Las Vegas have strict dress codes.
  7. Dress sandals. When heels leave your feet failing, dress sandals are the comfortable swap.
  8. Swimsuit, plus a spare. Hotel pools are a draw. Holafly suggests packing a spare.
  9. Flip-flops or pool-party sandals. Wear them by the pool or on the Strip. Some venues require more upscale dress, so check dress codes first.
  10. Sunscreen, decent SPF. Sun plus desert wind is unforgiving on skin. Choose a decent SPF.
  11. Sunglasses and a hat. Sun protection for eyes and head. Wind can kick up small sandstorms.
  12. Refillable water bottle. Desert heat is intense and can leave you exhausted if you don't drink enough.
  13. Lip balm. The climate is dry. Carry a couple, one for each bag.
  14. Moisturizer for wind and sun. Wind and sun dry out skin, so use it daily.
  15. Day bag or crossbody. Carry water, sunscreen and medication so you skip trips back to the room.
  16. Phone charger and power bank. Both sit under Holafly's tech and documents list.
  17. Ear plugs. Handy for noisy neighbors, and for protecting hearing at loud venues.
  18. Mini first aid kit. Bandages and electrolytes cover small injuries and rough mornings.
  19. Ibuprofen, antacids, prescriptions. Pack prescribed medication too, not just the over-the-counter basics.
  20. Hand sanitizer. A small bottle in your bag helps you avoid coming home sick.
  21. Light scarf or mask. A scarf or mask covers nose and mouth if sandstorms hit.

Share the list with your travel group so nobody packs the same things twice. Tick each item as it goes in the bag, not when you remember it.

When to use it

Use it well ahead of your trip, once you know the season and how many nights you are staying.
