The list below follows the order the FSY packing page gives: casual clothing for five days, Sunday dress, then other items. Linen and towel needs vary by session. The session information page goes up about two weeks before the session starts, so check it before you pack bedding. Expect a lot of walking, so bring comfortable shoes. This covers what to bring. It leaves out registration and campus-specific dress rules, which come with your session details.
Why these items are on the list
- Pants, jeans or shorts. Five days of events. Pack enough casual bottoms to cover them.
- Casual shirts for five days. Clothing should be neat, clean, modest and appropriate for each day.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Expect a lot of walking. Pick comfort over looks.
- Closed-toe shoes. Required for games night, encouraged for dances.
- Pajamas to sleep in. Listed with casual clothing; pack them with your daytime outfits.
- Slacks, skirt or dress. Sunday dress clothing. Wear it where Sunday dress is required.
- Blouse or collared shirt, tie. A button-up shirt and tie are listed for Sunday dress.
- Comfortable dress shoes. Sunday dress still involves walking. Heels are discouraged.
- Linens and towels. Varies by session. Check your Session Information page, posted about two weeks before.
- Water bottle. Listed with the other items, alongside toiletries and medications.
- Toiletries, sunscreen included. Sunscreen, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, shampoo, soap and so on.
- Personal medications. Prescriptions, cough drops and similar items.
- Spending money. Set aside spending money for snacks, incidentals or emergencies.
- Scriptures, hard copy or digital. Hard copy or electronic both work, so pick whichever you'll use.
- For the Strength of Youth guide. Participants are expected to follow its standards, so bring your copy.
- Journal and pens or pencils. Pack both. The list names a journal and pens or pencils.
- Snacks for free time. For free time and the evening variety show.
- Variety show props or instruments. Costumes and instruments count too. Bring at your own risk.
- Luggage labels. Label your luggage to avoid confusion and mix-ups.
Tick items as they go in the bag, and share the screen with a parent for a final check at the door.
When to use it
Use it after registering, then recheck the linen question once your session page goes up, about two weeks before.
