Book ahead. The 360 CHICAGO guide says to reserve at Cindy's Rooftop, especially at peak hours and weekends, and to reserve and arrive early at Zanies. The MCA's free Tuesday concerts have limited capacity, so you reserve a spot there too. Below is a mix of nights, afternoons and summer picnics, from comedy clubs to a day in Pilsen. It assumes you're in the city or visiting, and it leaves out prices and opening hours, so check those before you go.

Why these items are on the list

  1. 360 CHICAGO views and TILT. 360 CHICAGO says the 94th-floor deck leads to TILT, leaning you out 30 degrees over the city.
  2. Chicago River architecture boat tour. 360 CHICAGO suggests the Cocktail Tour and Navy Pier Fireworks Cruise for something out of the ordinary.
  3. Cindy's Rooftop drinks or dinner. Glass-enclosed, overlooking Millennium Park. Reservations are recommended, especially at peak hours and weekends.
  4. Second City improv show. Interactive shows break the ice. Skip the front rows unless you want to join in.
  5. Ravinia Festival picnic concert. Summer pick. It's a trek to Highland Park; pack a picnic or order from the park's restaurants.
  6. Zanies stand-up in Old Town. Shows every night of the week. Reserve ahead and arrive early; it's a small room.
  7. Art Institute gallery challenge. Each pick a favourite piece in every gallery, then compare.
  8. The Salt Shed events and markets. Lots going on all summer, even if you can't get to a concert.
  9. Garfield Park Conservatory stroll. Free year-round for Chicago residents. Seasonal gardens and tropical greenhouses fill an afternoon.
  10. Spend the day in Pilsen. Pilsen's National Mexican Art Museum is free to enter. Build the rest of the day around it.
  11. Steppenwolf Theatre night. Shows run Tuesday to Saturday. Arrive early for a drink at the in-house bars.
  12. Field Museum free-admission day. Look for free days if you want a budget-friendly daytime date.
  13. A day in Chinatown. Make it a day date. The Chicago Good Life blog has a reel from theirs.
  14. Chicago Magic Lounge. Close-up magic at your table in a speakeasy-style room. Buy tickets ahead.
  15. Guided bike tour. Chicago Bike Adventures runs guided tours; Bobby's Bike Hike does neighborhood food tours.
  16. Pottery workshop at Penguin Foot. One-off workshops teach basic techniques, and you take your pieces home.
  17. City Winery tour or show. Popular spot. Book winery tours and live shows ahead of time.
  18. Lincoln Park Zoo visit. Always free to enter. Summer has adults-only evenings; winter brings ZooLights.
  19. AIRE Ancient Baths session. 360 CHICAGO's guide says these River West thermal baths sit in a restored 1902 factory.
  20. Chicago food tour. 360 CHICAGO's guide says tours typically include 5-6 stops across neighborhood restaurants.
  21. Swan boats at Humboldt Park. 360 CHICAGO suggests going in warmer months. Pack a picnic for before or after.
  22. Jazzin' at the Shedd. Chicago Good Life's summer 2025 list: most Wednesdays, entry 5:00-6:30 pm. Jazz plus the aquarium after hours.
  23. Tuesdays on the Terrace at the MCA. Chicago Good Life's summer 2025 list: a free concert each Tuesday. Capacity is limited, so reserve in advance.
  24. Art on the Mart picnic. Summer show. Chicago Good Life's pick is the Riverwalk Jetty between Wells and Franklin Street.
  25. Movies in Millennium Park. Summer outing. Bring your own food and drinks.
  26. Kayak the Skokie Lagoons. Summer outing. Walk along the trails too, and bring a picnic.

Tick each date off as you go and the list turns into a running record of where you've been. It's easy to scroll on your phone while you argue about where to eat.
